Dr. Shahnawaz Baba

Scientist, University of California, San Diego, California, USA.

Dr. Baba is currently studying the Alzheimer’s disease by understanding the changes on the molecular level in the brain Cortex/Hippocampus of the Alzheimer’ brain models. One of the major parts of the study is to decipher the role of novel transcriptional factors in Alzheimer’s diseases by employing NGS and Chromatin ImmunoCleavage (ChIC) technology, such as The Cleavage Under Targets and Release Using Nuclease (CUT&RUN), ChIP-seq and iMARGI etc. The highlight of the project is to look for the regulation agents that possess the potential to work as theranostic agents, so that we have both therapeutic and diagnostic advantages. Dr Baba is also working on the drug discovery front on the molecular level, where he is designing a novel method for screening millions of the drug molecules against thousands of the protein targets in-vitro by exploiting the current hot fields of DNA Encoded Chemical Drug Libraires (DECL). This study will revolutionize the drug discovery field once it achieves its fate. Dr Baba has previously worked on the multidrug resistant bacteria and their diagnostics by employing the synthetic biology tools and transcriptional based whole cell biosensors. Dr Baba did his doctoral thesis at Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IITR), India.
